Family fun on Father’s Day

06/05/2019 | Amanda Winters

Father’s Day is quickly approaching… have you figured out a fun activity to do with dad? Here are a few tips and ideas to make him feel extra special on Sunday, June 16.

Hit the gym
The Future of Fitness wants its customers to live their best possible lives, says owner Mac James. Since opening in 2011, the company has been voted the Best Gym in West County by What’s Up Magazine every year. The Crofton fitness facility expanded earlier this year—doubling in size from 2,500 to 5,000 square-feet—adding plenty of additional space for new and existing clients. Work up and sweat and enjoy some laughs along the way at this family-friendly facility.

Make musical memories
Perfect for the music lover in your life, Paul Reed Smith Guitars offers tours inside its Queen Anne’s County factory on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Take a look behind the scenes at manufacturing electric guitars, as well as amplifiers and acoustic instruments. Tours are reserved – first come, first served – and can include up to six people. Oh, and tours are free, so you can save your money for the PRS gift shop at the end of the visit.

Browse a brewery (or two)
It’s no wonder why there are so many breweries to choose from in Maryland—our geographic location is Mother Nature’s secret sauce for the state’s hops production. From 1812 in Cumberland and Hagerstown’s Antietam, to Prince Frederick’s Calvert Brewing and Waldorf’s Patuxent, there’s a brewery in every region of Maryland to satisfy tastebuds. Stop by Crooked Crab and Chesepiooc Real Ale on your way home from PRS Guitars. Visit Maryland Beer Company in Elkton to get a feel for the owner’s Maryland pride. Try out Parsonsburg's Tall Tales Brewing Company for an exceptional, artisan style. And don’t forget Guinness!

Go golfing
Golf might seem like the typical dad outing, but if he hasn’t been to this course, now is the time to visit. Eagle’s Landing in Berlin provides a paradise-like destination, with a seaside course kept in pristine condition. Enjoy an 18-hole adventure while experiencing the Assateague Island National Seashore all in one afternoon together. Be sure to book your tee time in advance!

Get on the water
With numerous of watercrafts and boats to choose from, the Aquatic Center near Deep Creek Lake has plenty to entertain the entire family. Start out with a kayak and paddleboard to get a feel for the water. Upgrade to a Jet Ski or sport boat for a more intense ride by the end of the day. Or, take a more relaxed approach, and take a leisurely fishing trip on a pontoon boat. Not in the Deep Creek area? Here’s a guide to fishing – from rivers to reservoirs – all throughout the state.
