Kent County welcomes new Enterprise Zone

01/10/2022 | Samantha Foley

The state of Maryland has approved the designation of a new Enterprise Zone in Kent County.

The newly approved zone will cover more than 1,500 acres in the county, including the Town of Rock Hall, and will remain in effect for 10 years. This program’s designation will help provide real property and state income tax credits to businesses that create jobs and make capital investments within the designated area.

Through this designation, the county aims to attract well-paying job opportunities, draw new investors, and assist business owners along Main Street in Rock Hall. The county is working to boost economic growth in the area, including its recent partnership with Kent Fiber Optic Systems to build a fiber-optic broadband network throughout the county.

Among the benefits of the program, eligible properties located in Enterprise Zones may receive a 10-year real property tax credit against local taxes, and businesses that create new jobs may receive the state income tax credit.
