HBO to film new series in Maryland

05/19/2021 | Amanda Winters

HBO is returning to Maryland to film its new mini series We Own This City this summer.

The six-hour production is based on Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton's book, which focuses on the story of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force. This series brings both David Simon, television writer and producer, and Baltimore-native Josh Charles (The Good Wife, Sports Night), back to the local spotlight.

This is the second film project to be announced in Maryland this month. Earlier this week, The Spook Who Sat By The Door was confirmed to film its pilot episode in Baltimore this spring. Both projects are anticipated to provide major revenue for the state and hire thousands of film industry professionals in the Baltimore region.

We Own This City will have a significant economic impact in the state as they hire Maryland crew, actors, and extras, and utilize local businesses throughout the Baltimore region. Past HBO productions that have filmed in Maryland include: Veep, Game Change, Henrietta Lacks, Something the Lord Made, and David Simon’s The Corner and The Wire.
