A new state program will help enhance Maryland’s breweries, wineries, and distilleries throughout the state.

The Maryland Alcohol Manufacturing Promotion Fund – which is available to government entities and certain nonprofits – was created to support the creation and expansion of the state’s alcohol industry. The fund will award grants to applicants to educate the public about beverage manufacturing; encourage minority business ownership in the industry; create incentives for the use of local agricultural products in production; and more.

As a major economic generator, Maryland’s alcohol manufacturing industry supports more than 9,500 jobs and brings in more than $1.2 billion.

“This promotional fund will allow us to reach more Maryland residents and visitors,” said Jim Bauckman, director of communications at Grow & Fortify, a local firm that helps build and strengthen agricultural organizations and businesses. “Our promotional goals are meant to drive more growth, leverage our beverage alcohol industry as one of the best in the region, and lead to more diversity among business owners and consumers.”
