Maryland Theatrical Production Tax Credit now available

11/01/2022 | Samantha Foley

Maryland has long been a booming epicenter for theater and the arts. With the entertainment and theatrical industries making a post-pandemic comeback, Maryland Commerce is now offering a tax credit program for theatrical productions.

Maryland’s Theatrical Production Tax Credit  provides a refundable credit of 25 percent against state income tax to eligible for-profit live stage theatrical productions, for costs including set design and operation, special or visual effects, wardrobe and makeup needs, sound, lighting, lodging, vehicle leasing, and more.

To qualify for the credit, the production must be a for-profit, National Touring or Pre-Broadway Production live stage theatrical production.

Maryland Commerce will be accepting applications for FY23 through June 1, 2023. More information on the Theatrical Production Tax Credit, eligibility, covered production costs, and further instructions on the application process visit our website.
