Launched by the Maryland Department of Commerce and the University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business in 2016, the program provides global consulting expertise to small Maryland companies that are looking to identify and expand international strategies and solve overseas business challenges.

Services are provided by students and faculty through the Smith School's Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER), a Title VI center funded in part by the U.S. Department of Education, as well staff from Maryland Commerce's Office of International Investment and Trade.

"By bringing together our experts from Maryland Commerce and the Smith School, we will encourage company growth not only in the state, but in the global market," said Maryland Commerce Secretary Mike Gill. "I am excited to see what our next group of participants is able to achieve."

Participating in the Maryland Global Consulting Program provides numerous benefits for companies, including gaining support for your company's project through Maryland Commerce and the UMD Smith School. The program also gives businesses the chance to work with some of the strongest critical thinkers from within the Smith School, in order to gain a fresh perspective on potential obstacles and opportunities that may arise.

To qualify for the program, companies must be in business for at least one year, be in good standing with the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation, and have generated at least $100k in revenue.

To be considered for this year's program, all companies must submit an application by July 1. To apply, contact Alex.Clark@Maryland.gov or (410) 767-0563 to set up a meeting.
