Montgomery County diagnostic company, Maxim Biomedical , has received Emergency Use Authorization for its new at-home test to detect COVID-19.
Unlike many other at-home test kits, the ClearDetect™ COVID-19 Antigen Home Test simplifies the process by removing the use of dropper bottles and pipettes. Instead of reading the results off a test card or cassette, MaximBio’s product shows results on a test strip that is placed inside of a test tube.
With this authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, MaximBio plans to design, test, and manufacture its product as the need for coronavirus testing continues.
MaximBio received funding from the National Institutes of Health’s Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx®) initiative to help support the production of this self-administered test. Launched during the pandemic, RADx® – which is a national collaboration among federal agencies – is a call-to-action for innovative ideas and technologies surrounding COVID-19 testing.
According to Jonathan Maa, COO of MaximBio, this is only one of several diagnostics home tests that the company is working on.
"Maxim Biomedical has always endeavored to provide high quality testing where it would fulfill unmet needs,” he said.
