Where to find wet labs in Maryland - 7 options

With federal agencies like the FDA and NIH right here in Maryland, the state has been rising as a biohealth hub for years. Companies are not only well supported by the federal government, they are surrounded by 2,700 life science firms... so companies moving to or expanding in Maryland can be confident they’re in the right spot. But when biohealth companies have specific needs, like labs or specialized equipment, finding the right space can be challenging no matter where you are. To help, we’ve compiled a list of seven places with available wet labs in Maryland.

Harbor Launch at IMET 
In the heart of downtown Baltimore is Harbor Launch at the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET), a startup incubator and community for science and science support companies.
Location: Baltimore 
Available spaces: Three small labs (less than 200 sq. ft.), and three 400 sq. ft. labs

Alexandria Real Estate
Alexandria Real Estate has facilities situated along the I-270 Corridor, one of the nation’s largest biotech hubs. Currently, the company is leasing labs in Gaithersburg at Alexandria Launchlabs and 910 Clopper Road. 
Location: Gaithersburg
Available spaces: Three 1,177 sq. ft. lab/office spaces, and one 2,200 sq. ft. lab/office

Edge Commercial 
In Rockville, Edge Commercial has space that’s just steps away from the FDA and convenient public transportation. With over 17,000 square feet and significant lab equipment inventory, the space offers endless possibilities for growing bio businesses.

CBRE has some space opening at the end of 2019. Offering significant lab improvements and emergency back-up power generators, this large space is well equipped and offers opportunities to subdivide. 
Location: North Bethesda

Hagerstown Community College’s Technical Innovation Center 
Western Maryland’s largest and most comprehensive technology-based business incubator, the Technical Innovation Center offers a variety of spaces and services to startups, including wet lab spaces.
Location: Hagerstown
Available space: 4 small spaces (less than 200 sq. ft.)

LifeBridge BioIncubator at Sinai Hospital 
The LifeBridge Health BioIncubator is Maryland's only hospital-based BioIncubator, which offers full and affiliate memberships to biotech and life science companies. The BioIncubator’s amenities include: access to the hospital’s physicians and staff, potential opportunities to conduct clinical trials, as well as equipment and conference rooms. 
Location: Baltimore
Available space: Various labs ranging from 100 sq. ft. to 325 sq. ft.

The Institute for Bioscience & Biotechnology Research (IBBR) at the Universities at Shady Grove 
Some small spaces are available at IBBR at the Universities at Shady Grove. Companies specializing in biomolecular science/engineering are typically attracted to IBBR and the access it provides to specialized equipment.
