48 businesses receive grants for global efforts

A total of 48 small and mid-sized Maryland businesses have received assistance through the state’s ExportMD program so far this year.

The four dozen businesses – which are located in 10 different jurisdictions – will use the ExportMD grants to market their goods and services to international customers. Traditionally, the funds are used to offset travel expenses related to international marketing, but they can also be applied for other marketing initiatives, ranging from website development to registration costs for virtual trade shows and missions.

The ExportMD program’s success is due in large part to the Small Business Administration’s State Trade Expansion Program, which provided a record $750,000 grant to the Maryland Department of Commerce last month. With help from the SBA, Maryland Commerce has quadrupled the number of ExportMD companies it has funded annually over the past decade.
