Maryland celebrates FeBREWary

02/04/2019 | Amanda Winters

For the fourth consecutive year, Marylanders across the state will partake in FeBREWary, the month-long celebration of our local craft brewing industry.

From the Eastern Shore’s Evolution—recently named our most underrated brewery—to Diamondback Brewing Company—which is partnering with Guinness on a dark Czech pilsner—there is no shortage of unique businesses and collaborations in our craft beer culture. Now is the time to check out that new neighborhood hot spot, or take an overnight trip to the mountains or the beach and enjoy one of our seasoned breweries’ specials.

The Brewers Association of Maryland will host the month’s main event in Silver Spring on February 15. This tasting festival – titled Love Thy Beer – will include more than two dozen breweries from throughout the state and give taste-testers a chance to vote on this year’s best beer made especially for the festivities.

“Love Thy Beer gives Brewers Association of Maryland members an opportunity to celebrate FeBREWary together and with the enthusiasts of our industry,” said Kevin Atticks, executive director of the Brewers Association of Maryland.

According to the National Brewers Association’s latest data, Maryland had 73 craft brewers that generated an economic impact of $826 million in 2017. Maryland breweries also produced more than 293,000 barrels of craft beer that year—enough for two gallons of beer for every 21+ year old in the state.

FeBREWary is held annually as a partnership between the Brewers Association of Maryland and the Maryland Office of Tourism, a division of the Maryland Department of Commerce.
