Maryland gains 6,100 jobs in February

Maryland added a total of 6,100 jobs in February, theMaryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulationannounced Friday, including 3,100 in the private sector and 3,000 in the public sector.

Jobs were added across several industry sectors.

The State's unemployment rate is now estimated at 5.5 percent. Since February 2014,Maryland's private sector has added a total of 37,900 jobs.While growth has been positive, Maryland Labor Secretary Kelly M. Schulz said her department is committed to further improvement.

"Maryland's improving employment numbers, including the gains in manufacturing, are a good indicator that the state is making progress. However, we still have work to do. At theMaryland Department of Labor, we remain focused on workforce development as well as fostering an environment where businesses can obtain the support needed to thrive and create jobs to put more Marylanders back to work," Secretary Schulz said.
