ThePort of Baltimorecontinues to remain competitive within the maritime industry by stacking on record after record. Most recently in August, the Port handled the most twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), or 20-foot containers, ever.

The Port has had an impressive year, with theJournal of Commercea leading industry trade magazineranking the Port of Baltimore as the No. 1 port in the country for container productivity. In June, the Port moved more than 9.7 million tons of general cargo, and a record 79,644 TEUs. More than 808,000 TEUs were shipped through the Port in FY 2015. Only two months later, the Port reached a new milestone by bringing in 86,149 TEU containers in August.

Another record set this year was back in March 2015, when 913,139 tons of general cargo and 49,971 containers were handled at the Port of Baltimore. General cargo includes containerized goods, automobiles, forest products, and roll-on-roll-off equipment, which refer to farm and construction equipment.

While Baltimore is surrounded by other large ports, such as Norfolk and New York/New Jersey, Maryland has invested in its Port and will continue to do so in order to remain an industry leader and retain thousands of Maryland jobs. The Port of Baltimore shares Governor Larry Hogan's message of "We're Open For Business," as we have the experienced labor, super Post-Panamax cranes, and 50-foot deep berth and channel ready to prove what we can do.
